AkzoNoble are planning to close their paint manufacturing plant in Slough, Berkshire, as they are opening a new plant elsewhere in the UK. However, the existing office building is separate from the main manufacturing site and AkzoNoble have decided to refurbish the complete office block and install new state of the art zero omissions air conditioning, refurbishing the office area’s and installing new furniture.

The Main Contractor was Day 2 Interiors, a longstanding client of RHT. The Building Contractor was Gardner Refurbishments who were introduced into the project by RHT and they managed the demolition, reconstruction of partitions, electrical installation, carpets and re-decoration.

RHT were responsible for the relocation of staff, Information technology, filing and personal effects into temporary space. Dismantling, removal and ethical disposal of redundant furniture. The relocation and installation of new furniture held in AkzoNoble’s store and the receipt and installation of new furniture to site supplied by Day 2 Interiors. Completing each phase with the relocation of staff and effects back into the newly refurbished space.

An RHT Installation Manager was on site throughout the project liaising with all parties and adjusting the programme to ensure all construction targets, relocation activities and furniture installations were completed on time to meet the clients demanding schedule.

The refurbishment of each phase was concluded over a two week period while the remainder of the building was occupied. The result was that the highest H&S standards were observed at all times and on occasion product and furniture deliveries were made through occupied office space.

This project was managed by RHT’s Commercial Director and on site by an Installation Manager and was successfully concluded in January 2015.
